Melissa

I grew up in Stratford, Ct. and went right from high school to dental assisting for a general dentist. I learned several different aspects of dentistry, oral surgery, periodontal, pediatrics, and orthodontics. Curiosity and the desire to have the ability to provide direct patient care lead me to further my dental education at Fones School of Dental Hygiene. I completed the program and graduated as a Hygienist with Cum Laude Honors.

I help patients avoid decay, dental disease and help arrange any dental care they may need. I most enjoy keeping their smiles bright and white! In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, spending time with my family and helping others.

I’ve seen our patients for many years. Many of these patients have started in devastating situations, either medically and/or dentally. Many of these patients have not been given the time and care they deserve and appropriate hygiene instructions. It is my privilege to treat patients and help people.

I just wanted to express my deep appreciation for your years of wonderful care and especially how you invested yourself in helping me yesterday as you understood how embarrassed I am about my teeth. I can’t believe how much better they look. – 3/29/24

Mirela

Mirela was born in 1968, and while her parents tried to shield her from the harsh realities of life in Romania, she dreamed of coming to America. After high school, she studied clothes alteration and design at technical school. She married her husband Dumitru, and in December of 1987, she had her first son, George. In 1989, Dumitru left to begin building a better life for them all in America, and less than a month later she had their second son, Mihai. In 1991, shortly after Romania won independence from a communist dictatorship, she brought herself and her two toddlers to meet up with her husband in America. When asked why she did it, she said, “Nothing matters to me more than my family.”

From the moment she got to America, she worked hard, spending her days as a seamstress at the Burlington Coat Factory and her nights attending English classes, becoming fluent in English. When she became fluent, her job opportunities widened, and she went to work for Vitramon in the quality control department. Having been a helpful person her entire life, she grew tired of factory work and looked for something that would let her make a difference. That’s why she went to school to become a certified dental assistant. She started classes in 1996, and since 1997 she’s been a full-time dental assistant for Dr. Horblitt. Together, they have helped countless patients obtain the care they needed, always ensuring that they received the best service possible. Nothing makes her happier than knowing that over the years, she’s been able to help our patients regain their smiles.

Donald

Donald has been a lab technician for over 25 years. According to Donald, the difference between our office and other offices is that the work here is far superior. The standard of the lab work produced here surpasses any other lab Donald has worked in. He’s worked in Bridgeport, Norwalk, and New York. Here, the lab does work that other labs don’t, such as head and neck prosthesis. He has learned many things working with Dr. Horblitt, and the other technicians that work in the lab have helped him greatly.

Donald has a strong faith in God and great parents who have taught him the value and importance of having a great work ethic. He is proud to say he has worked for Dr. Horblitt for over twenty years, and he’s never missed a day of work. He looks forward to going to work every day. He gets the chance to do great things and help many people here.

Sarah

Sarah Visina, formerly known as Sarah Wisniewski, received her BFA in sculpture from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. She focused mainly on mold making and lost wax casting in many different materials, including silicone. These college-attained skills were easily ported to the medical field when she had the great opportunity to study maxillofacial prosthetics and treat patients at James J. Peters VA Medical Center in conjunction with cases at Columbia University Medical Center under the supervision of Eric Asher, Dr. Candice Zemnick, and Dr. John Evans. Once Sarah completed the program, she was afforded the chance to work in the prestigious Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. There, Sarah worked closely with Marjory Golden, Dr. Joseph Randazzo, and Dr. Joseph Huryn on extraoral and intraoral prosthetics for two years. Now, Sarah is excited to open the door to her carrier as a freelancing Anaplastoligist, working with facilities such as Gary E. Horblitt, DDS. Sarah strives to be detail-oriented and meticulous when it comes to fabricating all of her patients’ prosthetic, including, but not limited to, nasal, orbital, auricular, and somatic deficits prosthetics. Due to Sarah’s experiences from her credentials, she has achieved an unprecedented high patient satisfaction rate. She is kind, receptive, and devotedly committed to the needs of all her patient.
