Dental Cleanings are Essential
Dental Cleanings play a key role in your overall health they ensure the removal of harmful plaque and tartar before it can damage your teeth and overall well-being. This process of cleaning is known as scaling and can be done manually and or by a power-driven scaler also known as a cavitron.
The first step of your dental cleaning visit we do a thorough health history which includes current medications, supplements as well as temperature and blood pressure. We also go through oral habits, social history, and dental history.
Cleaning frequency should be every 6 months although some patients are seen every 3 and 4 months depending on their oral condition.
Decay that goes untreated or undetected can leave the patient in severe pain and sometimes even with an abscess. Having frequent cleanings can help prevent this.
Dental X-rays help detect hidden problems so they can be corrected before causing any further damage. Dental bite wings or as most patients know them as cavity checkers or wings are typically taken 1x per year. If the patient is very high risk sometimes even every 6 months.
A panoramic X-ray, also known as a full mouth scan or panorex has several uses as it shows areas of the jaw that are not shown on traditional X-rays. This x-ray can also show any tumors or growths in the jaw and bone.
